With over 30 years of industry experience, Portwell leads in market trend awareness, innovative R&D design capabilities, excellent product quality, professional technical support, and efficient logistical processes. It provides comprehensive solutions to customers, striving to be their best partner.
In 2017, Posiflex Technology, Inc., a global leader in POS management system solutions, acquired Portwell, making it a significant supplier of professional industrial embedded computing platforms. In the first quarter of 2021, ASUS and Portwell entered a deep strategic and equity alliance, with ASUS acquiring a 45% stake in Portwell, becoming its second-largest corporate shareholder. Together, they established the Embedded Foundry to accelerate the evolution and application upgrade of the AIoT industry.
Portwell has established industry-leading R&D bases in Taiwan and the United States, including industrial-grade certification laboratories, and assembly lines in the Netherlands and Japan. The operational model is centered around Collaborative Design & Manufacturing Service, focusing on software-defined networking and data centers, advanced medical devices, gaming, semiconductor testing, and industrial automation. Portwell is a leading manufacturer in the industrial computer market. It maintains long-term and close customer relationships and accumulates extensive industry application experience by serving global leading manufacturers in various fields.
The Portwell R&D Manufacturing Center (Portwell Engine) was built in February 2010, covering an area of 61,600 square meters (663,000 square feet) across ten floors. It features 7 SMT production lines and 8 SI production lines, specializing in high-technology specifications, small quantity diversity, customized computing module design, and manufacturing, with R&D resources and a software team. The R&D center has heavily invested in testing and experimental equipment, establishing a fully equipped internal laboratory that provides extensive testing services to ensure design quality and regulatory compliance, including thermal analysis, ingress protection, vibration testing, highly accelerated life testing (HALT), ESD, EMS, power integrity, on/off testing, EMI, and signal integrity. Few in the industry can match its laboratory hardware facilities, allowing Portwell to offer customers rapid system validation services.
The Portwell R&D center also takes on the crucial responsibility of product planning, development, testing, manufacturing, and quality enhancement. It has multiple complete "SMT→DIP→Testing" production lines, four automated system assembly lines, a large dynamic burn-in room, drop test machines, and various other testing instruments, leading the industry in quality control and production efficiency.
With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and big data, and changes in the regulatory environment of various countries, Portwell has demonstrated its organizational adaptability in response to the global trend of low-carbon production, obtaining various international certifications such as ISO9001 (acquired in 1999), ISO14001 (acquired in 2004), ISO13485 (acquired in 2010), ISO45001 (acquired in 2020), CNS45001, and IATF16949 (acquired in 2024).
Portwell specializes in the manufacturing of industrial computer systems and the provision of industrial solutions. Its product line includes industrial single board computers/backplanes, industrial computer chassis/power supply equipment, network application hardware, motherboard cards and expansion cards, I/O boards (Input/Output), industrial tablet computers, modular computer equipment, and industrial embedded systems. Portwell combines Edge AI and AI technologies to provide complete solutions for intelligent transformation across various industries. Portwell not only offers customized hardware designs but also enhances product applicability and technical support through customized MCU and FPGA development and the PET(Portwell Engineering Toolkits) / RPET(Remote Portwell Engineering Toolkits) software tool. Embracing the core principle of “One For All,” PET presents a unified platform comprising APIs and applications compatible across various operating systems, hardware boards, and solution requirements. RPET’s remote management features are extensive, offering real-time monitoring of BIOS and EC firmware information. With built-in web services, customers can easily build remote control or management programs, making remote application development more seamless.
Portwell is innovating in promoting factory automation solutions, starting with the robotization of labor, AIoT endpoint control, and inter-machine data communication, utilizing AOI machine vision analysis technology to reduce production losses and enhance overall efficiency. These core technologies are based on Edge AI. Smart data communication is the core of building an automated factory; the factory management control center's computing system can process critical data in real-time, produce important decision-making indicators, and feedback the extracted data to the production endpoint machine systems through network communication, achieving production line productivity optimization, yield improvement, and operational cost reduction. Portwell’s RPET remote management tool realizes real-time monitoring and management of automated systems.
In terms of medical environment solutions, Portwell provides isolated LAN, COM, USB designs, and various solutions, combined with Edge AI technology, to meet the needs of different medical applications, including medical ultrasound, physiological measurement systems, patient monitoring systems, information management systems, medical self-service machines, and telemedicine.
